Fresh Story Game Review

As a young couple’s coffee shop burns down, they’ll have to start on a blank page. But this blank page seems to open new opportunities and experiences that’ve been closed.

Story – Content

Fresh Story is a Visual Novel about a female main protagonist who needs to make difficult decisions in a difficult time, stay faithful, and live a normal, peaceful life. Or take risks, be more open, and become more corrupted/depraved.

The game starts with asking what language the player wants to use. From the selection of: Russian, English, Brasileira, Español, and Portugês. Getting the feeling the game is based around or just simply created by a Latin-speaking developer.
The standard text for me when I first opened the game. Its language options were in English. And I tried choosing different languages, which changed the starter language after opening the game up the second time.
But for some reason, Russian does not want to work. As in at all, choose Spanish, restart, choose Russian, still Spanish.
(Small note: the only way to access Russian is to select it in settings after choosing one of the other four languages. Then it is possible to have the game in Russian)

The story starts as our protagonist explains the situation: her and her partner’s business burned down, and they had to make their way into the city to find work.
Where our protagonist got to stay over at one of her old school friends with her and her partner. While our protagonist’s partner stayed with an old buddy of his.
Leading our protagonist, “Diana,” to start a small gig at a maid café and eventually do double work at a company as a CEO’s assistant.
Diana’s boyfriend “Archie,” as it says in the game, but the Steam page introduces him as “Vlad.” Also gets hired at the same company as an office worker.

With all the difficulties that Diana gets, YOU are the one to choose if she will fall into the pit of corruption/depravity. Or if she will resist and let her love for Archie be the anchor holding her within bounds.

Certain scenes require Diana to be a certain level or corrupted/depraved. If not met with the required amount, the game will display this and not let you proceed with the action.

One major con that I’ve encountered, which is very clear to notice, is the scenes where our protagonist is texting or using her phone. And the issue being that the person texting is switching sides.
From looking at a conversation where we understand Diana is blue and the one she’s texting is Archie, who is white. And then all of a sudden, they just switch sides, but the old messages are still on the correct side.
This causes the whole thing to look weird as all of a sudden Archie will send a nude of Diana, and Diana will say, “Oh, babe, you look amazing.” It’s a small issue which the developers should be able to easily fix, but with the game being released soon a year ago and with over a hundred reviews, it feels like they don’t care for that small issue.

Visuals

Props & Clothes

The game reuses prop every now and then, but there is one prop that these developers LOVE to reuse. Steak & broccoli, to almost every meal that I’ve noticed in the game during my time playing (which is like half the game), I’ve only seen steak and broccoli, and ONCE plates with salad and pasta.

And hard to miss when the characters clothes collide with the characters. This so far of what I’ve seen has only occurred once, during Archie getting mouth to crotch by Diana. Where his t-shirt collides with his lil buddy.
Clothing collides is a common issue with 3D models, but for most of the game, everything turned out well, and no collides other than this of what I’ve seen.

Expressions & Animations

While the characters are nicely portraited, their expressions are more or less neutral most of the time. Quite a few times we’d see the characters smile, show a bit of teeth, or show lust during intercourse.

Textures & Lighting

The shadings, camera angels, and scenes/shots could use some adjustment. With the game’s high potential, a bit of adjusting here and there can help in making the game look a ton better.

Audio

Voice Recording

The intercourse recorded audio sounds accurate to the characters positions during intercourse. Sounds quite good overall, even if the audio might be short takes depending on scenes.

Music

le piano et le saxophone. Two beautiful instruments that combine so magically well. The background music throughout the game is the same most of the time. But neither less, it’s a very pleasant rhythm with some kick to it. The way the music is made causes it to not be so annoying after listening to it for a longer time. It’s basically just a good song.

Pros and Cons

My final little thoughts

Fresh Story has big potential and is a well-made game in its current state. Some adjustments could improve the look of the game and fix a few of the issues with scenes.
The price is considerable for a visual novel that lasts around 5 – 6 hours of gameplay plus replaying it only for the purpose of other scenes and achievements.

Though all in all, I do recommend trying out this game. And what do I know? Maybe steak and broccoli are a delicious combination undiscovered by my taste buds.
